Fees

Payment

Payment for therapy sessions is handled through my online patient portal that you access through a link that I email to you. When you set up your account, you have the option of paying for sessions by credit card, FSA or HSA card. If you choose that option, you will enter your card information in your secure, HIPAA compliant online account. You are billed for your session after we meet, and an invoice is posted to your online account which you access with a password. If you prefer to pay by cash or check, we can easily handle that at the end of the session too.

My fees are the following:

60-minute session
$135

90-minute session
$200

I do offer reduced fees on a limited basis. I am happy to talk to you about your financial situation to see if I can help make counseling more affordable.

Insurance

I am considered an out-of-network provider because I do not work directly with insurance companies, and therefore I am not able to submit claims directly for you. What this means is that you pay me directly for your appointments. At the end of the month I email you a standard itemized statement, which contains the billing codes and mental health diagnosis necessary for insurance billing and reimbursement. You submit that statement (called a superbill) to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.

It is important to know that the mental health diagnosis that goes to your insurance company may be part of your permanent medical record.

The reimbursement that you may receive is based on your particular out-of-network coverage and your specific insurance policy. Each insurance company and each individual plan are different, so it is important that you contact your insurance company to understand your coverage.

Questions to ask your insurance company to verify your coverage:

  • Do I have out-of-network insurance benefits for mental health?
  • What is my deductible for mental health services?
  • Does my coverage require pre-approval or a referral from my primary care physician?
  • How many sessions are covered per year?
  • What percentage of the cost of counseling is covered by my insurance?
  • What forms do I need to fill out for reimbursement?
